Peregrine Falcons are the top of the line for falconry, but they are complete loners
and cannot be relied upon to return to the falconer. It was obvious that our falconer
was not sure about letting this big boy out, but he was determined to give us a good show.
Sure enough, the minute this bird was released, he took off over the wall
and we didn't see him again. Clearly upset, the falconer apologized and went off
to look for his bird. When we returned to Cahir on the 11th, we asked at the castle
whether the man had found his bird; it seems the bird had found the nearby granery
and was enjoying feasting on the mice and other critters living there.
We certainly hope the falconer was eventually able to lure this bird back!
He gave us a wonderful show!
